SUMMARY
The weather
for December was spread over three distinctive phases. From the 1st to 10th
low pressure dominated the weather scene and it was wet and mild with
sunshine hard to find. There followed a period of high pressure from the
11th to 24th with a succession of 14 dry days. There was also plenty of
sunshine, but day and night temperatures were much lower with night frosts a
common occurrence. Winds were mainly from the north to make it that much
colder. Finally, from the 24th to the end of the month the weather became
changeable with westerly winds bringing rain and mild temperatures and there
was little sunshine.
The month
began dry and sunny after a wet and windy final day of the previous month.
However, this was short lived with the 2nd producing rain and strong winds.
The wet weather continued to the 10th with a total rainfall for the first
ten days of 55.1mm - over 70% of the months’ total. On 11th, high pressure
was well established over the U.K. and remained until the 24th to control
the weather scene. The 15th and 18th were the two coldest days with a
maximum temperature of 3.8°C. Both days were bitterly cold with an easterly
wind. The high pressure gradually moved away to the north east of the U.K.,
But the cold dry weather continued until the 24th when the high pressure
moved well away to the east and ceased to control the U.K. weather, which
became changeable. Christmas Day was mild, devoid of any sunshine, windy,
and wet later in the day. The mild, wet, and mainly dull weather continued
to the end of the month.
The
rainfall total of 70.8mm was below the seasonal average of 75.54mm.
The
sunshine total of 79.6 hours was well above the seasonal average of 62.3
hour.
The mean
maximum temperature of 9.0°C was just above its seasonal average of 8.°C
whereas the mean minimum temperature of 3.9°C was below its seasonal average
of 4.2°C.

SUMMARY
The weather
for the month of November can be summed up as containing just about every
thing. Warm days, night frosts, rain, heavy at times, sunshine, but just two
days
of strong winds, the 18th and 30th.
The month
began with a continuation of high pressure dominating the weather scene.
There was a fair amount of sunshine and winds were light. Day temperatures
were generally above the seasonal average. The 8th was generally cloudy and
during the late afternoon a cold front passed through the area breaking the
dry sequence of 10 which produced 2.4mm of rain. From the 12th onwards the
weather turned cold with widespread night frosts and day temperatures
struggling to reach double figures. Barometric pressure remained high over
the area and the morning of the 16th saw the first air frost (-0.6°C).
However, low pressure rapidly moved over the U.K. on the 18th to bring a
very wet windy day to the area and to bring about some local flooding. The
highest rainfall total of the month (23.2mm) was recorded. The following
three days were also very wet and on the 19th a hail shower was recorded
around mid-day with a thunderstorm during the night. The thunderstorm
resulted in widespread local flooding and some lightning strikes causing
some structural damage to some houses in the area. The total rainfall
recorded in the area between the 18th and 21st was 55.6mm which was just
about 65% of the total for the month. From the 22nd to the end of the month
the weather was rather unsettled with frequent showers, often heavy, and not
a great of sunshine.
The rainfall
total of 86.2mm was above the seasonal average of 74.49mm. The wettest
November since 2003 (113.6mm).
The sunshine
total of 108.3 hours was well above the seasonal average of 89.6 hours
but well below last November's total of 133.8 hours.
The mean
maximum temperature of 11.9°C and minimum of 5.8°C were both above their
respective seasonal averages of 10.6°C and 5.4°C.

SUMMARY
High
pressure throughout the month controlled the greater part of the month's weather
and as a result there was very little rainfall, generally light to moderate
winds, and some good sunny days. Day temperatures were generally above the
seasonal average but night temperatures were at times a shade below with early morning mist and
fog much in evidence.
The month
began on a cloudy note with rain in the early hours of the 1st and a misty
start to the first two days. The following day was also cloudy. A ridge of
high pressure began to move across the U.K. on the 4th. The day began with thick
fog which soon dispersed to give a welcome day of sunshine (7 hours). The following day was
the sunniest of the month (10 hours). Rain spread from the north west over the
8th and 9th. The 9th being a very wet day with the month's heaviest recorded rainfall of 12.9mm.
From the
10th to the 14th,it was dry with misty starts to the days. During the night
16/17 a cold front passed through the area bringing a heavy downpour
of rain 5.3mm). There followed a rapid rise in atmospheric pressure which brought a dry spell with
plenty of sunshine. Day temperatures dropped and the area came close to its
first ground frost on the 23rd. On 22nd,the resident high pressure: moved away eastward. The
following day the 23rd, hours of sunshine were recorded but thereafter up to the last three
days of the month sunshine was a rarity with a total of just 3 hours sunshine between the
24th and 26th. The 28th was a miserable damp overcast day with zero sunshine
and 3.7mm of mostly heavy drizzle. From then on to the end of the month It was
warm and dry with plenty of sunshine.
The rainfall total of 27.2mm was well below the seasonal average of 83.62mm, and the
driest October since 1995 (21.2mm)
The sunshine total of 130.9 hours was just above the seasonal average of 127.2 hours.
The mean maximum temperature of 15.5°C was above the seasonal average of 14.4°C whereas the mean minimum of 8.9°C was just below its seasonal average of 9.1°C.

SUMMARY
September's weather was very dry during
the first half of the month, then it became changeable and notably cool at
the close. The rainfall recorded during the first fifteen days
totalled a mere 0.5mm and there were some good warm sunny days. It is worthy
of note that overall September's total rainfall was considerably below the
total for June 2007 and the mean maximum temperature for the month
comfortably above that for June.
The month began
with a long awaited high pressure system positioned close to the south west
of the U.K. where it was to remain for the first half of the month to dominate the weather over the U.K. Winds were
light and mainly from the north and day temperatures were generally well
above the norm for the time of year. The warmest day of the month was
recorded on the 6th (24.2°C). It remained dry until the night 16th/17th when
showers brought 1.8mm of rain to break a sequence of twenty three relatively
dry days. There was a fair amount of sunshine notably on the 13th and 27th
with over ten hours on each day. Heavy showers on the afternoon of the 25th
brought the day's heaviest rainfall of 10.5mm. During the period 19th to the
21st again during the night 23/24 strong to gale force south westerly winds
affected the area. The weather continued somewhat unsettled until the 26th
and although remaining unsettled turned decidedly cooler to end the month.
The rainfall total of 28.8mm was well below the seasonal
average of 5.49mm.
The sunshine total of 137.5 hours was above the seasonal
average of 170.5 hours.
The mean maximum temperature of 10.2°C and minimum of
12.3°C were both above their respective seasonal averages of 17.9°C and

SUMMARY
The month of August started dry with
thirteen and a half hours of sunshine. To most it was hoped the belated
Summer had finally arrived. Atmospheric pressure was relatively high and
remained so until the 14th. It was very warm from 3rd to the 5th and the
total sunshine recorded from the lst to 13th was 150.9 hours. A daily
average of 11.6 hours. Also during this period a total of just 1.2mm of rain
was recorded. This glorious weather came to an abrupt end during the night
13/14 when a deep depression to the south west of the U.K. began to dominate
the weather. Associated fronts brought prolonged and at times heavy rain to
the area together with strong to gusting gale force winds. The 14th was a
miserable wet, cloudy, and windy day remaining sunless throughout. The
weather continued unsettled and from 18th to 23rd a mainly north easterly
airflow brought cool and cloudy weather to the area. A total of just 11.8
hours of sunshine was recorded during this period. From the 23rd to the end
of the month the weather was dominated by a large anti‑cyclone to the west
or south west of Ireland. As a result no rain was recorded and day
temperatures increased.
The rainfall total of 39.1mm was well
below the seasonal average of 49.63mm. It was the driest August since August
2000 (37.3mm).
The sunshine total of 241.7 hours was
above the seasonal average of 232.2 hours. The mean minimum temperature
20.1° C and minimum of 13.9°C were on par or close to their respective
seasonal averages of 20.1°C and 13.6°C.

January to July 2007 ‑ 1285.1 hours. January to July 2006

SUMMARY
July was mainly wet with frequent
showers, and windy at‑ times. Atmospheric pressure was daily on the low side
for the time of year and, as a result. unsettled weather became the order of
the day. Bognor Regis however, fared better than most other areas and apart
from a torrential downpour on the morning of the 20th, which resulted in
some localized flooding, the area was spared the worst.
The month began where June left off with
sunshine and showers. Pressure began to rise on 5th and resulted in a ridge
of high pressure crossing the U.K. to bring two sunny dry days on 7th and
8th. The ridge however was short-lived and the weather returned to its
unsettled norm on the 9th. From the 10th to the 15th although the daylight
hours were dry, showers dominated the silent hours. During the early
afternoon of 15th, thunder was recorded but there was a minimum of
precipitation (0.5mm). From the 16th to the 19th, it was relatively dry with
a fair amount of sunshine, although a strong south westerly wind dominated
the weather scene. During the early hours of 20th, continuous rain was
recorded which became a torrential down pour at 0800 hours together with
thunder and lightning. The rainfall continued until mid‑day to record a
total of 23.3mm, and to cause some localised flooding. Frontal activity
brought a wet day on 23rd with a total rainfall of 9.5mm and a sunless day.
The weather continued unsettled to the end of the month with heavy rainfall
during the evenings of 27th and 28th. (7.1mm and 9.1mm)
The rainfall total of 75.2mm, was well in excess of the
seasonal average of 42.57mm. The wettest July since 2002 (81.2mm).
The sunshine total of 262.1 hours was surprisingly above
the seasonal average of 239.1 hours.
The mean maximum temperature of 19.5°C and minimum of
13.7°C were close to their respective seasonal averages 20.2°C and 13.6°C.

SUMMARY
Weather-wise the month of June was
divided roughly into two Darts. The first Dart from the 1st to the 12th was
totally dry but from then on for the rest of the month sunshine and showers
became the colder of the day. Surprisingly, the sunshine total of 233.9
hours exceeded the seasonal average of 229.2 hours. Temperatures both day
and night both exceeded their respective seasonal averages.
The month began with high atmospheric
pressure steady over the U.K. Winds were light, there was plenty of
sunshine, and it was dry. It remained warm and sunny for the o fog during
mid‑morning and early afternoon of the l0th. Atmospheric pressure began to
drop on 13th and the weather became influenced by a depression to the
southwest of the U.K. moving to the northeast. There followed sunshine and
showers which remained the order of the day for the remainder of the month.
Additionally, winds freshened and during the evening of 19th thunder and
lightning were recorded and again during the afternoon of 23rd. The weekend
23/24 will be remembered by most for the Sunday 24th when it rained almost
continuously throughout with 14.2mm of rain recorded.
The rainfall total of 76.5mm was well in excess of the
seasonal average of 48.79mm it was the wettest June since 1997 (155.5mm).
However, compared with the rest of the U.K. where claims of the month's
total arriving in 24 hours was commonplace, Bognor Regis was spared the
worst.
The sunshine total of 233.9 hours was above the seasonal
average of 229.2 hours.
The mean maximum temperature of 18.8°C and minimum of
12.9°C were both well above their respective seasonal averages of 17.8°C and

SUMMARY
The month of May was exceptionally wet at
times with the monthly total well in excess of the seasonal average. Day
temperatures were variable but night temperatures for the most
remained well above the average for the time of year.
The previous month's steady high pressure
carried on to the 6th raising the hopes of many for a continuation of the
good weather. However, cyclonic conditions persisted from then on for much
of the rest of the month apart from a brief spell between the 21st and the
24th. Showers of rain on the morning of 7th (2.Omm) resulted in the first
measurable rainfall since the 25th of the previous month. Overall, the 7th,
the first Bank Holiday Monday of the month was dullish with a total of just
12 minutes of sunshine. on the night 8/9 frontal activity resulted in 4.6mm
of rain being recorded ‑ a relief for local gardeners. Further frontal
activity brought prolonged rain during the evening of 10th and during the

SUMMARY
March was overall a dry, warm, and sunny
month. 75% of the rainfall for the month was recorded between the 2nd and
8th. There was plenty of sunshine with the total of 199.9 hours being well
above the seasonal average. Both day and night temperatures too were above
the norm with a, total of two air frosts and eight ground frosts recorded.
The month began where the previous month
left off with low pressure dominating the weather scene. Sunday the 4th was
a very wet day and during the two nights 4/5 and 5/6 frontal activity
brought heavy rain and gale force winds to the area and causing much
disruption to the south of the U.K. as a whole. The 7th and 8th saw pressure
rising to produce two successive sunny days. Pressure continued to rise with
a ridge of high pressure crossing the U.K. With high pressure well
established over the U.K. the weather took on a Spring like role with light
winds, mild, at times warm temperatures and plenty of sunshine. on the
morning of 15th most inhabitants of Bognor Regis awakened to find thick fog.
However, the fog soon cleared to leave a sunny day. During the night 17/18
pressure began to drop. The winds increased and there was slight
precipitation (0.7mm) which brought to an end a 9 day dry spell. The weather
turned colder, and with the prevailing wind veering around to the north
there were some cold days. On the nights 20/21 and 21/22 there were two
slight air frosts recorded. During this period there were slight wintry
showers in evidence including a light shower of hail on the afternoon of the
29th. The month ended on a dry, sunny note, although the cold northerly wind
encouraged one to stay out of the wind.
The rainfall total of 50.6mm was below the seasonal
average of 60.44mm ‑ the wettest March since 2002 (52.6mm).
The sunshine total of 199.9 hours was far in excess of
the seasonal average of 131 hours ‑ the sunniest since 1995 (204.9 hours).
The mean maximum temperature of 11.7°C
and mean minimum of 4.9° C were both above their respective seasonal
averages of 9.2°C and 4.0°C. it was the warmest March for ten years.

total of 19 days when rainfall was recorded. With a total of 114.3mm it was
the wettest on record ‑ the nearest to this total being 1990, with
113.7mm's. The sunshine total was just above the average for February.
The month began with the weather
dominated by high pressure well, established over the U.K. It was dry, with
light winds and plenty of sunshine. This fine weather however was short
lived and, on the 6th the high pressure moved away to the east and the
weather became more changeable. It became colder with air frosts recorded on
7th and 8th. Frontal activity during the night 7/8 brought widespread snow
to much of the country. However the southern coastal strip was spared the
snow which fell as heavy rain. The weather continued to be dominated. by low
pressure with the nights 10/11 and 11/12 being very wet and windy and the
two nights producing a total of 24mm's of rain. This was followed on the,
night 13/14 when heavier rain was recorded (21.6mm). Temperatures throughout
this period remained well above the seasonal average and were to follow this
trend to the end of the month. From the 14th to the 19th, there was a lull
in the rainfall but sunshine was hard to find. The 20th was a dull day and
during the night 20/21 heavy showers affected the area ‑ 7.8mm's. The
weather continued to be dominated by low pressure although in between
showers on 21st, 7.2 hours of sunshine were recorded. During the night 24/25
frontal activity produced a total of 10.8mm's of heavy rain. A ridge of high
pressure crossed the U.K. on 26th to produce a most welcome sunny day ‑ 7.7
hours. The weather on the 26th was short lived with a mixture of sunshine
and showers ending the month.
The rainfall total of 114.3mm's was well above the
seasonal average o 45.9lmm.
The sunshine total of 92.4 hours was marginally above the
seasonal average of 88.3 hours.
The mean maximum temperature of 10.0°C and minimum of

SUMMARY
The month of January was very warm with
day and night temperatures well above their seasonal averages. The
Meteorological Office affirmed that it was the warmest January in the U.K.
since 1916. Rainfall was well below the seasonal average and the total
sunshine hours exceeded the seasonal average of 68 hours.
The month began where the previous month
left off with the weather generally unsettled. It was windy, showery, with
sunshine at times a rare commodity. Day and night temperatures however,
continued to be above the seasonal average. The weather continued unsettled
with rainfall becoming a daily event and with many sunless days. Strong to
gale force westerly winds were recorded on the coast during the night 8/9
and continued for much of the 9th and 10th. During the night 10/11 and
continuing into the llth, gale force winds swept the country causing much
disruption. From the 12th to the 15th no rainfall was recorded and the 14th
saw pressure rising to produce a dry sunny day (6.5hours). Frontal activity
brought heavy rain late morning of 17th followed by some sunshine during the
afternoon. Pressure began to drop and a deep depression crossed the U.K. to
provide a terrible day on the 18th with gale force winds which persisted
throughout the day. Reportedly, gusts of 100 m.p.h. were registered on the
Isle of Wight. The depression moved quickly eastwards to create some havoc
on the continent and to give the U.K. a much quieter day on the 19th. The
21st was a pleasant sunny day (5.0 hours) with temperatures dropping during
the night 21/22 to bring a cold day on 22nd (5.5°C). Pressure began to rise
during the night 22/23. There followed a cold dry period and, on the morning
of 24th (For some a month too late) we all woke up to find a complete snow
covering over the ground. It was bitterly cold with a brisk northerly wind.
The snow had gone by late afternoon. There followed a dry sunny day on the
26th (6.1 hours). Pressure began to rise to the west of the U.K. to give dry
conditions with northerly winds through to the end of the month.
The rainfall total of 51.4mm. was well
below the seasonal average of 72.83mm.
The sunshine total of 73.2 hours was above the seasonal
average of 67.9 hours for January.
The mean maximum temperature of 10.2°C and minimum of
5.8°C were both well above their respective seasonal averages of 7.4°C and
2.8°C.
